Anthony Wayne Wright was born September 24, 1958, in McRae, GA—the youngest of five children—born to Mrs. Vernice Wright Cook. “Wayne,”
as he was affectionately called, was of a quiet spirit. He passed away January 28, 2026, 6:49 p.m., at Savannah Memorial Health Hospital, Savannah, GA. Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie; his mother, Vernice
Wayne was a product of the Telfair County School System. Upon completing high school, he entered the US Navy, where he served 4 years, receiving an honorable discharge. He went on to further his education at the Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, Georgia; where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Wayne was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
His hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, word search, jogging, watching and attending basketball games, watching football--playing when time permitted. His last employment was with Trinity Group Service at Wheeler Correctional Facility, Alamo, GA, where he was supervisor.
He leaves to cherish his memories—his loving sisters--Betty Cook Loveless of Douglasville, GA, Millie A. Cook of Atlanta, GA; protective and devoted brother--Bernard Cook of McRae, GA; devoted brother-in-law—Fred Loveless of Douglasville, GA; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friendships. Special friends—Sue Briley, Daniel and Annell McRae.
