Mr. James D. Wilcox was born on July 24, 1924, to the late Mr. Sam M. Wilcox and Mrs. Mary Steele Wilcox. He grew up in a family with six siblings; five sisters, Jeddie Lee, Essie, Rosa Mae, Irene and Geraldine, one brother, James Ide Wilcox.
As a child, he attended school at the Old Wesley Chapel Church in Rhine, Georgia. He joined Wesley Chapel Church at a very early age. He taught Sunday School for many years and served on the Deacon Board.
He farmed for a very long time before starting to work with the Telfair County Board of Education where he retired in the late 1990’s.
Mr. James D. Wilcox was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Gertrude McDuffie Wilcox on August 6, 1946. From this union eleven children were born, one preceded them in death. They had been married for seventy-one years. They leave to cherish their loving memories; Children, Leonard Wilcox, Sr. of Tampa, Florida, Jimmy Daniel (Cheryl) Wilcox of Stockbridge, Georgia, Milton (Theresa) Wilcox of McRae, Georgia, Walter Wilcox of Rhine, Georgia, Annette (Theodore) Pounds of Augusta, Georgia, Helen (Jerome) Lott of Hinesville, Georgia, Charlene (Larry) Purnell of Augusta, Georgia, Fredrick (Sharon) Wilcox of Rhine, Georgia, Woodrow Wilcox of Augusta, Georgia, and Jacqulyne (Donald) Adams of Phenix City, Alabama. Thirty (30) grandchildren, sixty-three (63) great grandchildren, eight (8) great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
