Nettie Mae was born December 18, 1948 in Wheeler County to Willie and Lurlene Lovett. She was adopted and lovingly reared in the home of Dan and Penny Peterson. Nettie Mae, known lovingly by her family as Net, peacefully entered into the embrace of her Lord and Savior Christ on Saturday, December 23, 2023 with her family by her side.
She received her education from Central High School where she was a basketball player, track star and majorette. After graduation, she migrated to Rochester, NY, continued her education and became a certified nursing assistant.
She joined Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later joined Greater Centilla Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as the van driver and usher ministry. She loved her Centilla family. On January 13, 1973, Nettie married Willie Wright, Jr. who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and six siblings. A woman of great love and devotion, she was an exceptional mother to her children.
She leaves a legacy of love and beautiful memories for her two daughters and son, Tonja Peterson (Larry), Cherie Wright and Willie Wright, III. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Sienna Ray Wright, who was reared in the home as the fourth child; seven grandchildren, Keandria Peterson, Kesmond Clark, Larrion Hamilton, Ja’Mirrowia Wright, Chloe Johnson, Aniya Brown and Cherrish Townsend; 8 great grands; siblings, Robert (Sharon) Peterson, Lula Mae Bailey, James Woodard, William Wesley, Gloria Wesley, Tessie Wesley and Elaine Lovett; a special devoted friend, John Frank Wallace; two uncles, Johnnie Barnes and John Henry Barnes; 3 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends. Her legacy of love and dedication to family, church and community will continue to inspire and guide us.
